NORMAL, Ill. -
Sophomores Filip Miljevic, and Timon Reichelt and freshman Skip Span of the Illinois State men's tennis team were named to the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference All-Select Team, as announced by the league.
"I'm excited for each of the guys," said head coach Cris James. "They all have been leaders on the team and have performed consistently at the top of our lineup throughout the year. It is a well-deserved award."
Each of these plaudits marks the first-such honor for all three Redbirds.
Miljevic finished the regular-season 9-10, primarily competing at the Redbirds' No. 2 singles spot, going 3-3 in Valley play. Reichelt ended the season with a 7-12 singles record, while also having a 3-3 mark in Valley competition at No. 1 singles.
Reichelt and Miljevic earned the ITA No. 11 doubles spot in the central region prior to the spring season, in addition to Miljevic ranking No. 28 in the region for singles.
Span posted an 11-8 singles mark in the regular season, as he dropped only two matches to Valley foes, earning a 4-2 record. Before the start of the spring season, Span and doubles partner Daniel Tobar garnered the No. 56 ITA national doubles ranking.
The all-conference team is comprised of one individual from each of the six singles flight classes, as well as three doubles teams from each of the doubles flight classes. In addition, six other individuals are chosen regardless of flight distinction and are named to an "All-Select" Team. Individuals earning selection to the all-conference team via the flight-selection process are not eligible for the at-large select team. The all-conference team is chosen by a vote of the coaches.
