Schick and Koshman Prepare for NCAA Regionals

NORMAL, Ill. - Senior Meaghan Koshman and sophomore Erica Schick will be traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Regional Championship Saturday. Koshman will be competing on the vault and Schick will be competing in the all-around in the South Central Region of the NCAA Regionals. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m., and is hosted by University if Arkansas.

Head coach Bob Conkling is proud of the hard work and dedication that Erica has put into the past two weeks of preparation.

"Erica has been working so hard during her workouts," said Conkling. "She has improved her consistency and her routines look the best they have all year. This is Erica's second time making it to Regionals in the all-around. I think she knows what to expect and will end up having her best meet of the season."

Schick will be competing in the all-around competition. She will be facing Holly Reichard from Northern Illinois, Annie Kachman from Illinois-Chicago, and Sandra Blake and Rikara Turner from Southeast Missouri State.

Schick will enter the all-around competition with a RQS of 38.548. She finished third place in the conference on the uneven bars with an RQS of 9.780. On the floor routine, Schick finished fifth with a RQS of 9.800.

At the MIC Championship Meet, Koshman and Schick were named to the all-conference team. Schick also placed second in the all-around with a 39.000, tying her career-best.

Schick will be rotating with Southern Utah and will be start the evening on vault. Koshman was originally an alternate on the vault, but will be competing in the place of an injured gymnast.

Koshman will enter competition, on the vault, with a RQS of 9.830. She finished second in the conference on the vault with an average score of 9.790.

The NCAA Regionals are broken down into six regions. Each region has six teams, five all-around competitors who are not qualified with a team, and one individual specialist per event.

The six teams that make up the field for the South Central Region are Alabama, Oklahoma, Boise State, Arizona State, Illinois and Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) rival Southeast Missouri.

At the conclusion of the event, the qualifiers for Nationals will be announced.
