Redbirds Travel to Indiana Invitational

April 5, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will travel to Columbus, Ind., to compete in the 15-team Indiana Invitational, which is being hosted by Indiana. The tournament will be a two-day event with 36 holes played Monday and a final round of 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday. The tournament will be held at the par-72 Otter Creek Golf Club.

"After having two weeks off to recuperate and prepare, we are all very eager to get back into competition mode," said head coach Darby Sligh. "This is a great tournament, with a very strong field, so we are looking to follow up our success at Baylor (ISU finished in first place) with another solid week. This event is a great tune-up for the MVC Championships, so I'm looking for this to be a total team effort. At this point in the season, we need everyone to be on the same page, and have all of our preparation fall into place."

The Redbirds competing in the Indiana Invitational will be seniors Marci Hill and Tiffany Hockensmith, along with juniors Laura Harris, Stacey Miller and Marisa Milligan. Junior Britt Knutson will compete individually at the tournament.

The field will be made up of Augusta State, Ball State, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Lipscomb, Marshall, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, UNLV, Western Michigan and Wisconsin. ISU is the only Missouri Valley Conference team in the tournament.

Monday's 36 holes are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
