WICHITA, Kan. - Gabe DeMarco had two of Illinois State's five hits as Wichita State starter Jordan Cooper struck out a career-high 10 batters and combined to shutout the Redbirds, 5-0, in the series finale at Eck Stadium Sunday afternoon.

DeMarco finished the game 2-for-3 but couldn't help Illinois State (13-9, 4-3 MVC), which snapped a 25-game road losing streak to Wichita State in Friday's opening game, avoid dropping the Missouri Valley Conference series, 2-1.

Cooper scattered four hits over seven innings and fanned 10 Redbird hitters. The Shockers used two home runs to score three of their five runs in the game and gave Cooper room to work with runs in each of the first two innings.

Redbird starter Corey Maines struck out six and surrendered six hits in six innings, but was tagged for four runs in just his second loss of the season. Jim Sajewich struck out four and surrendered a run in two innings of relief.

Illinois State welcomes Northern Illinois to Duffy Bass Field for a non-conference match-up Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Redbirds continue the mid-week slate with a trip to Purdue Wednesday.
