Final Stats
COLUMBUS, Ind. - After the final day of play, junior Laura Harris led the Illinois State women's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the 14-team Indiana Invitational Tuesday. ISU carded a final-team score 965 (326-320-319) on the par-72 Otter Creek Golf Club. Harris fired a 2-over-par in the final round of play and recorded a final score of 236 (85-77-74) to finish the tournament in a tie for 12th place.
“Laura and Stacey (Miller) were the glue that held us together,” said head coach Darby Sligh. “I am extremely excited for both of their finishes in a very strong field. It was another very difficult day. We didn't score as well as we would have liked, but I am very proud of the way we fought through every shot. We will take a lot of strength from our struggles at this event.”
Junior Stacey Miller carded a 17-over-par 54-hole score of 233 (76-78-79) and finished the tournament in a four-way tie for sixth place, while junior Marisa Milligan carded an 11-over-par on the final 18 holes and earned a total score of 244 (79-82-83). Milligan finished the tournament in six-way tie for 35th place. Senior Marci Hill recorded a final-round score of 83 and finished the tournament in 59th place with a final score of 254 (86-85-83). Rounding out the top-five for the Redbirds was senior Tiffany Hockensmith, who shot a 255 (87-83-85) and finished the tournament sitting in tie for 60th place.
Junior Britt Knutson, competed individually, ended the tournament in a five-way tie for 50th place with a 33-over-par final score of 249 (84-81-84).
UNLV won the tournament with a team score of 931 (317-309-305). Iowa State came in second place with a team total of 944 (323-310-311), while Texas completed the top-three teams with a 948 (323-312-313). ISU defeated in-state rival Illinois, who finished the tournament in 10th place with a 972 (328-316-328).
Natasha Krishna (UNLV) was at the top of the leaderboard with a three-round total of 225 (75-74-76). Therese Koelbaek (UNLV), Kelley Louth (Texas) and Elise Swartout (Western Michigan) all tied for second place with a 54-hole score of 229.
The Redbirds will compete in their final tournament of the spring campaign April 17-19. ISU will travel to Panorama, Iowa, to compete in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The three-day event will be held at the Lake Panorama National Golf Club.
