NORMAL, Ill. - Wet, wintry conditions throughout the weekend made field conditions unplayable at Duffy Bass Field Tuesday forcing a cancellation of Illinois State's scheduled contest with Northern Illinois, the baseball office announce Tuesday afternoon. The game will not be rescheduled.
Tuesday's cancellation marks the seventh for the Redbirds this season as weather has poked holes through the team's first half schedule. The Redbirds had a mid-week contest with Illinois cancelled last Tuesday, part of a three-game stretch, along with the last two of the Indiana State series, washed out by rain. Illinois State was unable to finish its season-opening series at Belmont because of cold temperatures and was washed out in the final two games at Murray State.
The Redbirds hope for warmer, drier weather on Wednesday when the team travels to Purdue for a non-conference match-up at 4 p.m. Ben Hays, who was slated to start Tuesday, will get the nod again in West Lafayette, Ind. Hays will be making his first appearance of the 2009 season.
