May 18, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State point guard Lloyd Phillips underwent knee surgery last week to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. Phillips was bothered by the injury last season and will be sidelined for three to four weeks.

"From what I understand, the surgery went really well and Lloyd should be ready to go by the start of the season," said Illinois State head basketball coach Tim Jankovich.

Phillips played in 31 games last season for the Redbirds, including 26 starting assignments. He ranked third on the team in scoring with 10.6 points per game, after transferring from Iowa Western Community College. Phillips also led the team with 112 assists and ranked first on the team with a 41.6 shooting percentage on three-point field goals.
