COLUMBUS, Ohio -
After the first day of play, junior Stacey Miller led the Illinois State women's golf team to an 18-hole team score of 311 at the NCAA Central Regional Thursday. The Redbirds are currently in 15th place on the par-72 Scarlet Golf Course. Miller fired a 1-under-par 71 and is in a three-way tie for fifth place individually.
"I couldn't be more proud of the way we handled ourselves today," said head coach Darby Sligh. "We fought until the end. We didn't finish as well as we would have liked, but we have put ourselves in a great position going into tomorrow's round. Stacey had another amazing round and held us together down the stretch."
Junior Marisa Milligan carded a 4-over-par 76 and is currently in a 17-way tie for 30th place. Junior Laura Harris scored an 80 and is sitting in a six-way tie for 79th place, while seniors Tiffany Hockensmith and Marci Hill each shot an 84.
ISU is currently leading North Carolina State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Harvard, Murray State and Fairleigh Dickinson, respectively.
UCLA is currently in first place with a team score of 4-under-par 284, while Michigan State and Purdue are tied for second place with a team total of 295. Oklahoma State is in fourth place with a 297, while Wake Forest rounds out the top-five with a team score of 298.
Stephanie Kono and Maria Jose Uribe, who are both from UCLA, are tied for first place with a 3-under-par 69. Sydnee Michaels (UCLA) and Natalie Sheary (Wake Forest) are currently tied for third place with a 2-under-par 70.
The Redbirds will continue play Friday with assigned tee times. ISU will tee off between 8:50 a.m., and 9:30 a.m.
