ISU Basketball Game Day Program Places Third

June 2, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - The official game-day program of the 2008-09 Illinois State men's basketball season finished third in the nation in the annual publications contest conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The program, which was co-edited by ISU Athletics Media Relations graduate assistants Jill Speer and Kevin McCarty, finished behind Kansas and Ohio State.

This is the second-straight year CoSIDA ranked the Redbird publication in the top-three nationally, after the 2006-07 men's basketball game-day program was voted the "Best in the Nation."

"Jill and Kevin did a tremendous job on this publication," said Todd Kober, assistant athletics director for media relations. "It's extremely difficult to have a publication place in the top-three in back-to-back years, but they were able to pull it off. I always talk to our graduate assistants about leaving their mark on the office, and both Jill and Kevin have done that."

The contest rankings were decided upon by three judges, which were coordinated by Joe Guistina of South Carolina-Upstate. Illinois State earned scores of 247, 205 and 268 out of a possible 300 points awarded by each judge. Criteria for grading included team information, change pages, feature material, graphics and design, editorial content and additional information.

Since 2001, Illinois State's publications have earned nine top-three finishes from CoSIDA.
