Watson Hired as Director of Equipment Operations

June 24, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State Athletics Department added a new face to its staff with the hiring of Nicholas Watson as the director of equipment operations, as announced Wednesday. Watson brings nearly 10 years of experience and extensive knowledge from his past positions.

"We are pleased that Nicholas is joining the Redbird family," said ISU Executive Associate Athletics Director Larry Lyons. "Obviously, we were looking for an individual with good equipment room experiences, but also a person who we believe is a good fit for our department, in general, and a good fit for Coach (Brock) Spack's football staff, in particular. Nick's personality will allow him to easily mesh with our existing equipment room staff. He will hit the ground running, and he will need to as Redbird football pre-season camp is just around the corner."

Most recently, Watson served as the assistant equipment manager at Colorado State where he had several responsibilities. Watson was in charge of coordinating the athletic equipment needs for student-athletes and coaches, while bidding, purchasing and ordering new equipment and uniforms. Watson was responsible for daily operations and administration of the athletic equipment room.

The Danville, Va., native began at Colorado State in 2005 after a year of graduate school at Georgia Southern, where he served as the graduate assistant equipment manager. Watson earned his bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech in 2000, while serving as a student equipment manager for the Hokies.

Watson became a certified equipment manager by Athletic Equipment Managers' Association (AEMA) in 2005 and has been a member with the organization since 1997.

Watson is excited to join Illinois State Athletics and looks forward to the experience.

"I am eager to join the Redbird family," said Watson. "I look forward to the opportunity to be able to contribute to the great things already occurring within the athletics department at Illinois State."
