Krick Receives 2009 Hutchison Endowed Scholarship

July 1, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State senior guard Maggie Krick has been named the recipient of the 2009 Jill Hutchison Endowed Scholarship. Krick is the ninth recipient of the scholarship named in honor of the former Redbird head coach.

ISU head coach Robin Pingeton selected Krick, a two-year team captain, for the endowment because she embodies all of the characteristics the Hutchison made synonymous with Illinois State basketball during her career.

"When I think about the words that describe coach Jill Hutchison and what she has done for this program, this university, and this community, I think of words such as leader, driven, committed, compassionate, caring and disciplined. Those are all words that I could use to describe Maggie Krick," Pingeton said. "Maggie has been, and will continue to be, a great leader and role model for this program, Illinois State University and our community. She has certainly impacted our program on many different levels and epitomizes what we all look for in our student-athletes."

Krick was an All-Valley pick for the second-straight year, earning second-team accolades after ranking second on the Redbirds in scoring (12.6 ppg), three-point field goals (53) and assists (97). She made a three-pointer in 29 of the 34 games the played in, including the final 15-consecutive, and became the eighth player in school history to make more than 100 three-pointers in her career. Krick enters the 2009-10 season in fifth place in career-three-pointers at ISU (131).

"After getting to know Jill over the past few years, it is a tremendous honor to receive this scholarship," Krick said. "She has had such a tremendous impact on the game of women's basketball and I respect her as a coach and a person."

The Washington, Ill., native was a Valley Scholar-Athlete Team and a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V selection for the second-consecutive year.

Hutchison spent 28 years as the head coach at Illinois State and earned 428 wins in her career, the most in Redbird basketball history. She guided ISU to three NCAA Tournaments, six WNIT appearances and was a three-time conference coach of the year. She was inducted into the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame and a banner was hung from Redbird Arena in her honor in 2007. This past June, she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn.

Hutchison stays involved with Redbird basketball as a color analyst for WJBC and Missouri Valley Conference television and has watched Krick play throughout her entire career.

"I couldn't be happier that Maggie has been chosen for this endowment," Hutchison said. "She is the ultimate teammate and a fantastic young lady. She has grown into a leader, a role she will probably be relied on for more this year, and one she is more than capable of excelling at."

The Hutchison Endowed Scholarship is one of 23 endowed scholarships available to Illinois State student-athletes that are funded by private donors.
