NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State men's tennis coach Cris James announced the addition of Alexander Pelaez to the Redbirds' roster on Wednesday. The incoming freshman has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for ISU this fall and will have four years of eligibility.
Pelaez is a 20-year-old Cuban native currently living in Florida. He has some solid experience including a win over a former top-20 college player and an ATP World Ranking in singles.
When the freshman arrives in August, Coach James will focus on preparing him for competition at a collegiate level.
"He is a special player who has seen good results," said James. "He has a natural ability on the tennis court and we are going to concentrate on getting him back into the competitive mode."
Coach James is excited about Pelaez's opportunity to play tennis at Illinois State.
"Living in Cuba doesn't always provide a great deal of opportunities for a young tennis player," said James. "I am excited about his special chance to come to ISU and not only play tennis, but receive a great college education."
