NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's track and field team has added another student-athlete to the team for the 2009-10 season, as Sade Sealy signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue her track and field and academic careers at Illinois State. Sealy attended The Lodge School and competed in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.
Head track and field coach Elvis Forde feels Sealy will be a strong asset to the team athletically and academically.
"Sade brings a whole new aspect to our program, because she can run anything from the 200-meter dash to the 800-meter run," said Forde. "I am expecting her to be a point scorer right off the bat in the Missouri Valley Conference and even contend for championships. Not only is she an outstanding athlete, she also brings a lot of international experience with her. I am excited to have her on the team, and we are expecting some good things from her over the years."
Sealy qualified for the 2009 Carifta Games in April in St. Lucia. Sealy competed in the under-20 division in the 400-meter dash, where she finished in fourth place with a 54.84. She also competed in the 800-meter run in the same division and finished in fifth place with a time of 2:10.67.
The Bridgetown, Barbados, native also competed in the 2005 and 2007 Carifta Games. In 2005, she recorded a 57.14 in the 400-meter dash, while clocking a 2:15.00 in the 800. In 2007, Sealy competed in the 400-meter dash and crossed the finish line at 55.19.
Sealy was a member of the Barbados team which came in fourth place in the medal count with 21 total medals.
She recorded a 54.95 in the 400-meter sprint at the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (BSSAC) in 2007.
Sealy was also successful in the classroom, earning several awards for her academic achievements.
