The Illinois State women's golf team had three student-athletes named to the 2008-09 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar Team for Division I. Seniors Laura Harris, Britt Knutson and Stacey Miller were recognized as All-American scholar-athletes for their academic achievements.
Recipients of this honor must have a grade-point average of 3.50 or above, while competing in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II and III) of their team's scheduled rounds during the regular season.
Miller, who is a business management major, was the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference champion after firing a 225 (74-71-80) during the event. The Bloomington, Ill., native was a four-time MVC Golfer of the Week and won three individual titles during the 2008-09 season. Miller competed in a team-high 31 rounds in 11 events and was named to the 2008-09 MVC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team.
Harris also competed in a team-high 31 rounds in 11 events, while maintaining a 78.5 stroke average. The marketing major was named to the 2008-09 MVC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team with Miller, while recording three top-20 finishes during the season. Harris's lowest one-round total was a 73 in the second-round of the Ross Resorts Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C.
Knutson played 19 rounds in seven total events. The South Bend, Ind., native recorded a stroke average of 80.1. The business teacher education major carded seven rounds in the 70s.
The Redbirds will look to win their third straight MVC title during the 2009-10 season.
