NORMAL, Ill. -
Week 4 Game Notes
Illinois State's women's soccer head coach Drew Roff is set to return to his alma mater Friday as the Redbirds travel to Michigan this weekend to play at Michigan State at 3 p.m. Friday and at Central Michigan at noon Sunday. Roff played for the Spartans from 1991-94, amassing 16 goals and 17 assists for 49 total career points.
"I'm really excited to go back to Michigan State this weekend," said Roff. "I have a lot of good memories there. I have known the Spartans' coach for a long time. Illinois State and MSU are two schools I feel strongly about, and it will be nice to play each other. MSU has a very strong team this year, and it will be a challenge. MSU has some very talented players in its lineup. MSU's forwards are probably some of the best we will see this season."
The Redbirds tallied their first win of the season at home Sunday (Sept. 6) in a shutout victory over Northern Illinois, 1-0, after a second-half goal by ISU's Jessica Carlson. With the win, the Redbirds are currently 1-2-1 overall this season.
Michigan State is coming off a 4-0 shutout victory over Central Michigan Sunday (Sept. 6). With the win, the Spartans remain undefeated going 3-0-1 this season, while the Chippewas are 3-2-0 on the season.
Friday's game between the Redbirds and the Spartans will be the first meeting between the teams in program history, and it marks the third time this season the Redbirds have played a 2008 NCAA Tournament participant. The Spartans were an at-large bid in the 2008 NCA Tournament, falling in the second round.
Central Michigan leads the all-time series against Illinois State, 3-2-1. The last time the two teams met was in Sept. 7, 2007, when Illinois State won, 3-0. All three goals were scored by ISU's Ammanda Wisniewski. With the hat trick for six points, Wisniewski tied ISU's all-time record for most points in a game.
