Sept. 10, 2009
NORMAL, Ill.
Illinois State Alumni Services will be honoring former men's swimming and diving coach, Archie Harris, for his contributions to Illinois State and the swimming and diving program. The reunion will be held September 11-12, 2009, on Illinois State's campus.
All current and former ISU swimmers and divers and interested guests are welcome to participate in the two days of activities.
The reunion will be in honor of Archie Harris' contributions and accomplishments while coaching at ISU. Harris coached the men's swimming and diving program at ISU from 1957-81, before the sport was dropped in 1982.
"To host a men's swimming and diving reunion in honor of Archie Harris is something that I'm definitely looking forward to," current ISU women's swimming and diving head coach Steve Paska said. "I enjoyed my one year of swimming under Archie Harris, which was his 25th and final year. His personality, wisdom and wit are some of the things that I will always remember about Archie, as well as his ability to make us passionate about the sport and have a lot of fun with it as well."
Events planned include a social gathering at 6 p.m. Friday at the Chateau Fireplace Room in Bloomington, Ill. A meet-and-greet of former swimmers and divers with the current women's team is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at the Horton Pool on campus, followed by a campus tour, golf outing and a social and dinner on Saturday evening at the Alumni Center.
