NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State women's golf will open the fall season at the two-day Chip-N-Club Invitational Sept. 14-15. The tournament will be held at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. Play will begin Monday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The Redbirds enter the 2009-10 season after capturing the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship, their 10th MVC title. This will be the first time the Redbirds play the par 72, 6,214-yard Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.
Head coach Darby Sligh expects seniors Stacey Miller, Marisa Milligan and Laura Harris to lead the Redbirds. Sophomore Hannah Bachman and freshman Katie Jean will also be competing in Monday's tournament.
"We are all very excited to get the season underway," said Sligh. "This week, we are led by our three senior captains who are all playing very well right now and are coming off successful summers. We also have some underclassmen traveling this week, which will be good to get some further experience under their belts. Katie and Hannah will be part of the nucleus helping to lead us next year."
The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Monday in order to determine the match-ups for Tuesday's final round. The four lowest individual rounds for each team will determine the overall team score.
Participants for the 2009 Chip-N-Club Invitational include Arkansas (Sun Belt), Arkansas State (Sun Belt), Creighton (Missouri Valley), Kansas State (Big 12), Kansas (Big 12), Missouri (Big 12), Nebraska (Big 12), North Dakota State (Summit League), Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley), Sacramento State (Big Sky), South Dakota State (Summit League) and Wichita State (Missouri Valley).
"As a whole, we are playing solid golf and are looking forward to a good start to the season," added Sligh.
