Illinois State women's tennis won four finals on Sunday at the Redbird Round-Up. Having not hosted a tournament in seven years, the Redbirds were excited to end the weekend with such success. Freshmen Aniko Kiss and Stefanie Youngberg both had victories in the finals.

Kiss played three sets against senior Julia Zubkova in the Flight 1 singles final that went on for three hours. In the end, Zubkova bested Kiss, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5.

"Aniko has been a big surprise for me," Hoover said. "I'm excited about her level of play and what she brings to the table for the team. She and Stefanie both have both really impressed me this weekend."

In Flight 4 singles, Youngberg bested Bradley's Kennedy Scott, 7-5, 6-4. Carmen Peters downed Butler's Brittany Farmer in Flight 3 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.

Teammates became opponents in doubles play when Natalia Lech and Aniko Kiss faced Zubkova and Franziska Steinhardt besting them, 9-7.

With all the victories this weekend for Illinois State, Hoover is excited that they came out on-top.

"We've won," Hoover said. "I feel great about it. It's still a little disappointing no one was in the Flight B singles but it's been a Redbird Day, and I'm pleased with that. Tomorrow is a well deserved day off for the team."

Illinois State will return to play Sept. 25-27 at the Kansas Invitational.
