ISU Softball Plays Host to Lake Land Wednesday

Sept. 15, 2009

NORMAL, Ill. - After defeating Redbird alumni, 4-1, Sunday (Sept. 13), the Illinois State softball team will continue its fall season at home Wednesday as it hosts Lake Land College at 6 p.m. at Marian Kneer Softball Stadium.

"The alumni game gave us to chance to see where we are as a team," said head coach Melinda Fischer. "It helped us evaluate what our players maintained from practice. We played three different lineups, mixing rookie players with veterans to see what would work. I was impressed with our pitching staff only giving up one run."

Lake Land went 42-8 overall in the 2009 spring season and returns nine players including the Great Rivers Conference Freshman of the Year, Mallory Bremer.

Illinois State is coming off a 24-26 2009 spring season, going 12-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Redbirds return 12 players including All-American, Kara Nelson and All-Valley First-Team selection, Abby Olson. ISU also welcomes seven newcomers to the roster.

"Lake Land is a very talented NJCAA Division I team," said Fischer. "They have played a few games this fall already. So, they have a little more experience. However, this game will show us what we have improved on since the alumni game."
