Three homeruns in the sixth inning by Redbirds Caiti Kopp, Shelby Music and Sara Bradley led the Illinois State softball team to a 14-1 victory over Lake Land College Wednesday at Marian Kneer Stadium.
In total, the Redbirds had four homeruns on the night, bringing in nine runs. Junior Carly Billings started off the homerun derby for the Redbirds in the third inning with a three-run shot.
The Redbirds played three different lineups on the night with three different pitchers. Megan Warner pitched for three innings, while Jordan Birch and Chrissy Burton were in the circle for two innings apiece.
"We had some nice at-bats with back-to-back hits," said head coach Melinda Fischer. "We definitely had more offense than the alumni game. It was so exciting, and it felt contagious. This game will give us some momentum for our Iowa double header on Sunday."
The Redbirds will continue their fall season at Iowa Sunday, where they will play a double header.
