NORMAL, Ill. -
For the third-straight year, Illinois State Athletics will serve as one of the locations in Bloomington-Normal to participate in the Eastland Chiropractic and Wellness sponsored "World Wide Day of Play", Sept. 26.
The Reggie Fun Zone will open at 1 p.m., one hour before the volleyball match between Illinois State and Creighton starts inside Redbird Arena on Doug Collins Court. During that hour, kids will have the opportunity to meet Reggie Redbird and Illinois State student-athletes, play games and other activities.
Later that day, at 5 p.m., the football version of the Reggie Fun Zone will open two hours prior to kickoff of the Redbird football game against South Dakota State. This fun zone will feature a climbing wall from Upper Limits, face painting by the Zoo Lady, inflatables by Fun on the Run, Reggie Redbird, ISU student-athletes and other fun games and activities. Game tickets are not required to enter the football Reggie Fun Zone, which will be located at the grass practice field northwest of Hancock Stadium.
Eastland Chiropractic and Wellness will have information tables at both Reggie Fun Zone locations.
"We are excited to be involved with the `Worldwide Day of Play' for the third-straight year," ISU Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions Brad Ledford said. "The kids in our community will have a great opportunity to interact with Redbird student-athletes, while they continue to learn how to further remain active in their lifestyles. In addition, we look forward to hosting the kids and their families at both the Redbird volleyball and football events that day."
The Worldwide Day of Play is the official day to turn off all things electronic, get off the couch and go play. In addition to the two locations at Illinois State, local children can also participate at the Children's Discovery Museum, Anderson Park, YWCA McLean County and McGraw Park. Each location will have goodie bags available for the kids, which will include two free tickets to the Redbird volleyball match.
Participants are also encouraged to begin the "Worldwide Day of Play" at the American Heart Association's 2009 Start! Heart Walk at The Shoppes at College Hills. The Heart Walk, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., raises funds to help fight heart disease and stroke, and includes live entertainment, a kids' zone, healthy snacks and more.
