NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State softball team will continue its fall season Sunday as it travels to Iowa for a double header. The first game is set for 1 p.m.
"I think it's a great opportunity to go against a very prestigious program," said head coach Melinda Fischer. "Iowa has certainly been well represented in the Big Ten Conference. They have been represented in their regionals, and they have also made it to the Women's College World Series. So, we are going against a lot of history. The one thing I like about Iowa is the team throws everything at us. The Hawkeyes have speed, quickness, power, pitching and defense. I think we will learn a lot by playing a team of their caliber."
The Redbirds are coming off a 14-1 win over Lake Land College Wednesday (Sept. 16), while the Hawkeyes will be beginning their fall season on Sunday.
The Hawkeyes ended the 2009 spring season losing to Boston in the Atlanta Regional of the NCAA Tournament, going
42-16 overall and 13-7 in the Big Ten. This year, Iowa returns 10 letterwinners to its roster.
