Women's Tennis Concludes Kansas Invitational

Sept. 27, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Head coach Chris Hoover and the women's tennis team headed home after a disappointing weekend at the Kansas Invitational. The Redbirds were unable to capture wins in both singles and doubles final on day three of the tournament.

In singles action, sophomore Franziska Steinhardt fell to Erin Wildorf (KU) in three-sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The sophomore duo of Steinhardt and Hannah Esker were stopped by doubles team Sara Lazarevic and Ekaterina Morozova (KU), 8-4.

Hoover believes the team played well this weekend and will use their losses as a tool to better prepare for future tournaments.

"All in all I think it was an okay weekend," Hoover Said. "Franziska lost in three sets in the finals and didn't play her best but made it a match. Doubles was the same thing, they didn't play their best. They had a couple of chances but didn't convert. When you're playing good teams and good players, you have to convert when you have the opportunity. I'm hoping the matches will mean a little more to the team as the Valley Individuals get closer and closer. Hopefully this will get them ready."

Illinois State women's tennis will return to play Oct. 2-4 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
