After a rough start to the season, the Illinois State women's soccer team is set to play its first regular-season home game against in-state rival Northern Illinois Sunday at 2 p.m., at Adelaide Street Field. The Redbirds will be looking for their first win of the season, as they are 0-2-1 overall so far in 2009. The Redbirds are coming off a 0-1-1 weekend in Las Vegas, at the UNLV Nike Classic Tournament.

"After beginning the season with three tough road games, we are excited to be playing at home this Sunday," said head coach Drew Roff. "In order to have success, we really need to tighten things up defensively, which has been our focus in training this week. It is always a hard fought match when we play Northern Illinois, and we are looking forward to getting on the field again and playing in front of our home fans."

The Redbirds will also host Red Alert Day on Sunday. All Red Alert members are invited to an exclusive pregame pizza party provided by Papa John's Pizza, beginning at 1 p.m.

The Huskies are 1-2-0 overall and are coming off a 1-0 loss at Wisconsin (Sept. 3)

ISU is 4-1-2 in all-time home openers, including last season's 3-1 win over IPFW. The Redbirds are 73-23-14 at home since the start of the program, and in 2008, the Redbirds were undefeated at home, going 7-0-1. Roff also has a winning record at home, going 12-1-2 in his first two seasons with the Redbirds.

Earlier this season, the Redbirds won their only home exhibition game (Aug. 16), 4-1, over IUPUI, when sophomore Jessica Carlson netted her first collegiate hat trick.

Redbird freshman Kelly Rosenthal leads the Redbirds in total points (4) and goals scored (2), early in the season.

Illinois State leads the all-time series against Northern Illinois, 6-3-1. The series includes a five-game winning streak for the Redbirds from 1999-2003. The last time these two teams faced each other was Sept. 1, 2006. The Redbirds triumphed over the Huskies, 2-0, after Ammanda Wisniewski scored two second-half goals.
