Jan. 22, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State swimming and diving will go up against regional rival Illinois Saturday at 12 p.m., at the Activities and Recreation Center pool in Urbana, Ill. Saturday's dual-meet will be the first time the Redbirds and Fighting Illini take to the water since the `Birds fell 183-117, to Illinois in November, 2009.

The Redbird swimmers and divers are looking to make every performance count in Saturday's meet.

"We had a great week of practice," Head coach Steve Paska said. "Our student-athletes have realized that this is when every swim and every dive are extremely important, and they are ready to compete."

Diving coach Phil Hoffmann looks forward to how the team will perform against the Big Ten competition.

"This meet is a great opportunity for our divers," Hoffmann said. "Going up against Big Ten divers at this point in the season will provide a good benchmark for Katelyn Prorok and our divers to determine our focus for the upcoming weeks."

Illinois State is 3-3 in dual-meet competitions and Illinois holds a 6-3 record for dual-meets.

The Redbirds and Fighting Illini are set to dive in at 12 p.m.
