NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State swimming and diving will host Wisconsin-Green Bay Saturday at 11 a.m. in Horton Pool, when seven Redbird seniors will be recognized for their athletic and academic achievements.
Seniors Annette Danilowski, Caitlin Falconer, Elizabeth Herner, Jill Polanski, Katelyn Prorok, Amy Werkema and graduate student Lindsay Dinkelman will be honored for their accomplishments as Redbirds and compete for the last time in Horton Pool.
The `Birds hold a 4-3 dual-meet record as they go into the dual-meet against Green Bay, which has accumulated an 11-2 dual-meet record this season.
Head coach Steve Paska feels the Redbirds are ready for the final meet at home.
"We had a great week at practice, and each swimmer knows what specific aspects of their races that they need to focus on," Paska said. "In the past years, we have had great dual-meets against Green Bay. They are a quality team and (head coach) Jim Merner is a quality coach, and I know that they will get here and be ready to compete."
Danilowski, Falconer, Herner, Polanski, Prorok, Werkema and Dinkelman will be competing together in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, but Saturday's meet is the last dual-meet and competition in Horton Pool for the seven Redbirds.
"It has been an absolute pleasure to see these student-athletes mature into young adults, and there is no better way than to give them recognition in their last home meet," Paska said. "Each senior has left values on the underclassmen that will help them grow throughout their careers here."
On the diving side, diving coach Phil Hoffmann looks forward to seeing the how the divers perform in their last regular season meet.
"I'm really looking for confidence and consistency," Hoffmann said. "Everyone had a solid week of practice, and I think we're going to come out ready to perform."
