ST. LOUIS -
With a nearly 18-point scoring average over the first week of the Missouri Valley Conference schedule, Illinois State senior Osiris Eldridge seemed like a logical choice for the Valley's Player of the Week, as released by the conference office Monday.
Eldridge guided the Redbirds to a 2-1 start in league play by averaging 17.7 points per game over three games against Wichita State, Missouri State and Southern Illinois. He also torched the perimeter in the three games, shooting a combined 10-for-21 on three-point field goals for a 47.6 percent success rate, and led the team with 11 assists.
His top performance of the week occurred Dec. 29 against Wichita State on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. Not only did Illinois State end the Shockers 10-game winning streak with an 72-57 win, but Eldridge poured in a game-high 25 points while holding WSU's Toure' Murry to three points on 1-for-8 shooting.
Eldridge, who has won the league honor six times in his Illinois State career, and the Redbirds will be back in action Wednesday night, when Illinois State travels to Evansville to face the Purple Aces at Roberts Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
