NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will head to South Bend, Ind., to compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, beginning Thursday at the University of Notre Dame.

The tournament consists of qualifying and main draws in both singles and doubles. Seniors Timon Reichelt, Matej Zlatkovic, Filip Miljevic, and sophomore Alexander Pelaez will all be competing in the main singles draw. Junior Skip Span and freshman Mya-Smith Dennis will need to advance to the singles main draw through the qualifying round.

Doubles tandems of Reichelt and Pelaez, Miljevic and Zlatkovic, and Span and Smith-Dennis will all compete in the doubles main draw.

Head coach Cris James is anxious to see his team perform on the big stage.

"To me, this is the biggest tournament of our fall season," James said. "It features the top players from our area, and gives us a great opportunity to show what we're made of. I believe the fall season is mostly about preparation, but we really want to win and have a good showing in this tournament."

Qualifying play begins Thursday, when Span and Smith-Dennis will compete in the singles qualifying draw. Both will need to win two matches Thursday to advance to the main draw. Main draws in both singles and doubles begin Friday.
