Redbirds Set to Compete at the Illini Open

Oct. 21, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's and women's cross country teams will be represented at the Illini Open Friday evening in Urbana, Ill., at the UI Arboretum. The women's 5K race will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 4:45 p.m.

"This meet is an opportunity for our younger athletes to get another race in, while getting some more race experience," said Illinois State head cross country coach Jeff Bovee. "This will be a good assessment tool for us to see who could be on the team that will compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in a few weeks."

Freshmen Ruth Allen, Kimberly Christensen, Megan Fry and Juliet Vogel, along with sophomore Brea Tinney will compete for the Redbirds in the women's 5K race.

Competing for the men in the 8K Illini Open will be sophomores Steven Regan and Bryan Winek, with freshman Erik Stanton.

The Redbirds will compete against Missouri Valley Conference rival Bradley, along with Illinois, Illinois Wesleyan, Indianapolis, Lewis, McKendree and Northern Kentucky.
