SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Senior Timon Reichelt and sophomore Alexander Pelaez advanced to the third round of the doubles main draw Saturday at the ITA Midwest Championships in South Bend, Ind.

The duo defeated Ohio State's Wyatt Lippert and Shuhei Uzawa, 9-8. Reichelt and Pelaez will be the only Redbirds competing Sunday.

Despite the win, head coach Cris James knows that Reichelt and Pelaez need to play better Sunday.

"Timon and Alex need to be sharper," James said. "They definitely didn't play their best today, but they found a way to win. They're capable of doing great things as a doubles tandem, but they need to eliminate mistakes and really concentrate during their matches."

ISU's Filip Miljevic and Matej Zlatkovic fell to Ohio State's Matt Allare and Peter Kobelt, and Skip Span and Mya Smith-Dennis were defeated by Ohio State's Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola.

Regardless of the losses, James was still impressed with the play of his doubles pairs.

"Even though they lost, the guys played well," James said. "They had enough chances, but ended up losing some big points."

Zlatkovic was the only Redbird to win in singles play Saturday. He defeated Wisconsin's Richardo Martin, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-5, in the singles consolation round. Pelaez and Miljevic were also defeated in consolation play, and Reichelt fell in the singles main draw to Illinois' Abe Souza.

Play continues tomorrow at the University of Notre Dame.
