SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Senior Timon Reichelt and sophomore Alexander Pelaez won both of their matches Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the doubles main draw at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in South Bend, Ind.
The tandem defeated Wisconsin's Marek Michalicka and Petr Satral, 8-4, and then defeated Notre Dame's Spencer Talmadge and Niall Fitzgerald, 9-8 (3).
Head coach Cris James has been really impressed with Reichelt and Pelaez's play.
"Overall they've just been playing really solid tennis," James said. "In their first match they were very consistent, and although they got down early in the second match, they were able to battle back and pick up the win."
The duo will face Ohio State's Matt Allare and Peter Koblet Monday, who already defeated Illinois State's Filip Miljevic and Matej Zlatkovic in early round play.
James knows that Reichelt and Pelaez will face a big challenge in the semifinals.
"Allare and Kobelt are two big guys that have huge serves in addition to good all-around games," James said. "They will put a lot of pressure on us to hold our serve, because there will only be a few opportunities for us to break theirs."
Semifinal action in the doubles main draw resumes Monday at the University of Notre Dame.
