NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State senior Molly Gomberg was named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week October 27. Gomberg received the award after her performance against Northern Iowa this past weekend, including two first place finishes and two season best times.
Gomberg was a main contributor to the Redbirds' success in Cedar Falls, Iowa this past weekend. The Illinois State swimming and diving team won over the Panthers 198-100, for their second consecutive dual meet win this season, bringing their record to 2-0.
Gomberg recorded two first place finishes and two season best times in the 100-yard (59.87) and 200-yard (2:11.47) butterfly. She was also a member of the second place 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.85.
Head swimming coach Steve Paska believes this is an honor that Gomberg richly deserves.
"It is very exciting to watch Molly swim, she has the mentality that it is her time to show her talent and cherishes every opportunity she has to compete," Paska said. "She has had a consistent fall season and every time she competes I know she is going to give it her best."
Gomberg is in her final season with the Redbirds and is currently a team captain. She also holds the Illinois State record in the 100-yard backstroke.
