Former Illinois State basketball player Champ Oguchi was selected Monday night by the Maine Red Claws in the second round of the 2010 NBA Developmental League Draft with the 30th pick overall.
Oguchi played overseas last season with STB Le Havre in the France-Pro A League. He played in 29 games for Le Havre, and averaged 7.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
With the Redbirds, Oguchi was the 2009 Valley Newcomer of the Year and led the team in scoring with 15.2 points per contest. He also ranked fourth on the squad with 5.4 rebounds per game. The Oregon transfer led Illinois State with 90 three-pointers, while shooting 39.3 percent from beyond the arch on the season. His 90 made threes were the second-most by a Redbird in a single season.
The Red Claws posted a 27-23 record last season and finished fourth in the East Conference. Maine is the D-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics and the Charlotte Bobcats.
