Freshman outside hitter Shannon McGlaughlin was named to the All-Valley Freshman team at the 2010 State Farm MVC Volleyball Tournament Banquet Thursday morning. She is the 14th Redbird to be named to the All-Freshman team.
McGlaughlin made quite an impact in her freshman season, ranking second on the team in kills (341), kills per set (2.99) and points (371.0). She ended the regular season ranked 12th in the Valley in kills set. She also accumulated 226 digs, 30 blocks and 14 service aces. She recorded a career-high double-double of 21 kills and 21 digs at Wichita State.
McGlaughlin was a two-time MVC Freshman of the Week this season. She received the first honor of the year, after being named to the Corvallis Invitational All-Tournament Team. She recorded 43 kills and 26 digs over the three matches, registering double-digit kills in each match. McGlaughlin was also the MVC Freshman of the Week Nov. 11, after she totaled 22 kills and 15 digs in Redbird wins over Southern Illinois and Evansville.
Illinois State has had a player on the Valley All-Freshman Team in four of the last five seasons. Current Redbirds Mallory Leggett and Angela Rego were both honored as freshmen.
