Illinois State senior Emily Hanley posted her third double-double of the season to lead the Redbirds to a 76-69 non-conference victory over Milwaukee Tuesday night on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
With her 22 points, Hanley recorded her eighth double-digit scoring effort to give the Redbirds (7-3) their fifth win in five tries at home this season. Hanley led the `Birds in rebounds as well, with 11 boards. Joining Hanley in double-digit scoring were Katie Broadway and Amanda Clifton with 11 points each. Broadway's 11 points accounted for her eighth double-digit scoring effort of the season, as Clifton recorded her second this season.
The first half started out with a back-and-forth scoring effort until back-to-back treys from Broadway put the Redbirds up, 12-7. After seven Redbird turnovers, the Panthers kept the score close at 27-23. The `Birds capitalized on a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 34-25 with 3:30 left in the half. The Redbirds held on to close out the first half, leading 41-33.
Both teams came out in the second half with solid offensive efforts, as the `Birds led 55-39 with 14 minutes remaining in the contest. The Panthers went on a 13-2 run, bringing the score to 57-52. The Redbirds' defense forced three Panther turnovers, which propelled the `Birds to an 11-5 run, which enabled Illinois State to pull ahead to a 76-69 victory.
Milwaukee had three players finish in double figures, including Amanda Viehauser with 13 points and Anne Breland with 14 points, and Laur Lindsay recorded her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds, respectively.
Illinois State returns to action and opens Missouri Valley Conference play against Bradley, Thursday at 7:05 p.m., in Redbird Arena.
