Feb. 1, 2010

Final Stats

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Illinois State's Aniko Kiss and Natalia Lech were the only win for the Redbirds, as they suffered their first loss of the season against Purdue. The match was held in West Lafayette, Ind., in the Schwartz Tennis Center.

The No. 2 doubles position saw the only win for the `Birds when Kiss and Lech downed Purdue's Anna Dushkina and Remi Martin, 8-6.

"All in all Purdue was pretty good," said head coach Chris Hoover. "We were their fifth match of the season and they looked like they had been playing hard. The No. 2 doubles did a great job, but the No. 3 doubles let it get away in the end. All signs are pointing to a good team and a good season ahead of us."

Hoover believes that sophomore Franziska Steinhardt played her hardest this match. She competed against Anna Dushkina in the No. 4 singles and lost, 4-6, 5-7.

"Franziska played extremely well," said Hoover. "She was the last one on the court and still battling. If we would've played a few more matches maybe that would have helped. I'm not disappointed, I'm still very encouraged"

The Redbirds return to the court Sunday, Jan. 31, in Indianapolis, Ind., with two dual matches. The first match is set to begin at 10 a.m. against Butler and then at 3 p.m. against University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI).
