Redbirds Fly to Miami for Hurricane Invitational

Feb. 11, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State University women's golf team prepares to kick off the spring season at the three-day, 54-hole Hurricane Invitational on February 14. The event will take place at the Don Shula Resort in Miami, Fla. The first 18-holes will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by 18 holes on Monday and a final 18 holes on Tuesday.

Coming off a loss to Illinois last weekend at the Illinois Challenge, ISU is ready to get back in the game and start the season with a win. Representing the `Birds will be seniors Stacey Miller, Marisa Milligan, Laura Harris and Brit Knutson and sophomore Hannah Bachman.

"This is a very important event for us," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Not only is it our starting point for the spring season, but it also sets the tone for what we're trying to accomplish as a team the rest of the year. With four seniors competing, I'm looking for tremendous on-course leadership and execution."

The 23-team playing field will include: Augusta State, Central Florida, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgia State, Illinois State, James Madison, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Mercer, Miami, North Carolina State, Oklahoma City University, South Florida, Southern Miss, Texas State, Tulane, UNC Greensboro, Washington State, Eastern Michigan and San Diego State.

"With this strong field, it would be great to have all the pieces start falling into place," Sligh said.

The tournament was previously called the Qdoba Collegiate, but Miami recently decided to change the name to the Hurricane Invitational.
