CARBONDALE, Ill. - Illinois State's swimming and diving team moved into second-place at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships Friday in Carbondale, Ill., with 452 points. Multiple top-six finishes and personal-best performances helped move the `Birds up from the third-place position from day one.

Both Redbird relays had solid performances in day two as Molly Gomberg, Lindsay Dinkelman, Jeanette Nolte and Jessica McGee made up the 200-yard medley relay that finished in third-place with a time of 1:47.48. The 800-yard freestyle relay included Danielle Schumacher, Amy Schaefer, Ashley Bachler and Lauren Terzis, and also finished in third-place and recorded a time of 7:35.90, just .76-seconds behind the Illinois State school-record.

Nolte used her momentum from day one to achieve second place in the finals and a personal-best time of 56.67 in the preliminaries. Sarah Rendek followed Nolte with a sixth-place finish and a time of 58.29. In the preliminaries Chelsea Becker recorded a personal-best time of 1:01.40.

In the 200-yard freestyle Schumacher reached for fourth-place and set a personal-best time of 1:52.79. After setting her new time in the 200-yard freestyle, Schumacher shaved .42-seconds from her personal-best time as the first-leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay, setting a new personal-best time of 1:52.37.

Schaefer took fifth-place with a time of 1:53.15, and Terzis finished in sixth-place with a time of 1:54.46. Bachler (1:55.42), Emily Susmarski (1:58.43) and Kelly Healy (1:58.71) each set personal-best times in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries.

Dinkelman reached for fourth-place in the 100-yard breaststroke and recorded a time of 1:06.87. Caitlin Falconer finished in fifth-place with a time of 1:07.34. In the preliminaries for the 100-yard breaststroke Lauren Pojman (1:09.27), Morgan Buechele (1:06.75) and McGee (1:07.32) achieved personal-best times.

Gomberg recorded a personal-best time of 58.29 and fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, and Jillian Olson took sixth-place in the finals with a time of 59.70 and set personal-best time of 58.58 in the preliminaries. Megan Weber also set a personal-best time in the preliminaries with 1:03.16.

"It was a really solid swim for the Redbirds today," head coach Steve Paska said. "It has been two intense days of competition so far and I believe our student-athletes are ready and looking forward to performing in the final day of the 2010 MVC Championships."

On the other side of the pool Katelyn Prorok moved up from the seventh-place seat in the preliminaries and finished in third-place with a score of 238.65, missing second-place by .3-points.

Diving coach Phil Hoffmann feels Prorok gave an inspirational performance after coming off of a shin injury.

"Prorok's performance today really showed how much of a passion she has for diving," Hoffmann said. "She gave everything that she had on one-meter today, and I couldn't ask for anything more."

The Redbirds will head into the third and final day of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships Saturday, as competition concludes with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and final-round action beginning and 4 p.m.
