OMAHA, Neb. - Thanks to five players in double-digit scoring, led by
Dinma Odiakosa and
Osiris Eldridge with 12 points apiece, the Illinois State men's basketball team won its second-straight road game with a 67-63 win over Creighton at the Qwest Center Omaha Saturday afternoon.
With the win, ISU improved to 18-8 overall and 9-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Creighton fell to 13-13 overall and 8-7 in league play.
In a game which saw 20 lead changes, Illinois State built a seven point lead, 62-55, with 3:47 left. The margin proved to be just enough, as Creighton cut the deficit to one point, 62-61 with 1:02 left, but the Redbirds sank 5-of-8 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The first half featured six lead changes and six ties, but it was the three-point basket by Eldridge at the buzzer that determined the halftime margin. With Eldridge's fadeaway three as time expired, the Redbirds enjoyed a 31-30 halftime advantage. ISU featured a balanced scoring attack with nine players scoring points in the first half, while Creighton was led by 11 points by Kenny Lawson.
Lloyd Phillips, who's two free throws sealed the four-point win, finished with 11 points, while Austin Hill and Kellen Thornton each added 10 points apiece off the bench. Lawson led Creighton with 20 points.
Illinois State will play its first of three-straight home games Wednesday night, when the Redbirds host Missouri State at 8:05 p.m., on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
