NORMAL, Ill. -
Junior Erica Schick was awarded her second all-around Athlete of the Week title from the Midwest Independent Conference, following her strong performance in a win against Illinois-Chicago last Friday.
Schick took first place in the all-around (38.675) and on the uneven bars (9.725). She placed second on the balance beam (9.650) and the floor exercise (9.725). Schick's scores helped the team to their fourth-straight win of the season.
The meet against UIC marked Schick's return to all around competition, as she sat out on the balance beam the previous week. Head coach Bob Conkling believes this helped her success.
"Erica and I both felt she needed a week off balance beam to rest and regroup, and it worked," Conkling said. "She performed beautifully on the balance beam this week. Erica is great on all events. Uneven bars and floor are her strongest events, but she is improving tremendously on the beam and her vault is always consistently good. This makes for great scores in the all around all season."
Schick has competed in the all around in five out of six meets and took first place three times. In the other two meets, she took second. Schick posted a season-high all around score of 38.875 against Southeast Missouri State (Jan. 15).
The Redbirds continue competition this Sunday, Feb. 21, at Ball State at 1 p.m.
