Women's Tennis Hosts Morehead State

Feb. 19, 2010

NORMAL, Ill. - - Head coach Chris Hoover and the Illinois State women's tennis team will host their first home match of the spring season Sunday, Feb. 21, against Morehead State at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Ill.

After being on the road for the past eight matches, the team holds a 5-3 record. Hoover looks forward to the student-athletes playing at home and trusts it will be a great advantage playing in a familiar environment.

"I'm happy we are finally home," Hoover said. "Playing the last eight matches on the road was tough and wore us out. It feels good to be home for awhile and to be playing on our own courts. We are working hard to bring in a victory this weekend."

The last time Illinois State hosted a home invitational was during the fall season for the Redbird Round-Up. Sunday the team will compete against Morehead State who they last saw at the invite. The Redbirds went 3-1 in singles play and claimed the doubles victory in Flight A doubles against the Eagles.

"One of their players is from Normal, so it's nice to maintain ties with Morehead," Hoover said. "We invited them to play in our invitational last fall and to come play this spring as well. I look forward to a good match this Sunday."

Currently, Morehead State holds a 1-5 record in dual matches this season, winning their only match against Ball State.

Sunday's match will begin at 12:30 p.m.
