In the second round of the three-day Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic, Illinois State senior Marisa Milligan led the Redbirds to 10th place with at four-over par 76 (40-36). ISU made the top-20 cut and will complete the final round at Cougar Point, while the remaining teams will compete at Oak Point.
Milligan will begin the final round on Tuesday in a tie for 48th place individually, carding a 77 in the first round to earn a two-round score of 153 (77-76).
The Redbirds posted a team score of 307 in the second round and hold a two-round score of 607 (300-307).
"I'm proud of the way we fought through rainy conditions today," said head coach Darby Sligh. "Although we didn't play our best, we have not shot ourselves out of the tournament."
Senior teammates Laura Harris, Stacey Miller and Britt Knutson all shot a five-over par 77 during the second round. After carding an impressive one-under par 71 in the first round, Miller sits in a tie for 17th with a 148 (71-77). Harris is currently in a tie for 31st with a two-round score of 151 (74-77). Posting a one-over par on the front-nine, Knutson improved her first round score by one stroke to end the day in a tie for 64th with a 155 (78-77).
Senior Christine Larson is in a tie for 136th place, and will begin the third round with a score of 166 (82-84).
"I'm looking for a strong finish tomorrow," said Sligh. "We have to continue to trust ourselves over every shot. It's important that we end on a positive note in our last tournament until April."
The final 18-holes will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, followed by an awards ceremony scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
