ST. LOUIS -
Illinois State senior forward Ashleen Bracey was named the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week, as announced by Commissioner Doug Elgin Wednesday. Bracey received the MVC Player of the Week award Monday.
Bracey continued her stellar play in conference, averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in two Redbird wins. She shot 65.2 percent from the field (15-for-23), 40.0 percent from three-point range (4-for-10) and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line. She recorded her fifth double-double in Valley play with game-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Northern Iowa. She fell just short of another double-double with 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals, leading the team in all three categories.
Through the first half of the Valley season, Bracey leads Illinois State in scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg), while shooting 51 percent from the field. She has five double-doubles in the first nine conference games.
A criminal justice sciences major, Bracey has a 3.44 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). She was named MVC Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Week last week as well.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
