Illinois State reached season highs in points, field goal percentage (59.6 percent), and three-point field goals made (12), while also extending its season-long winning streak to nine games in a 90-61 win over Indiana State on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena Saturday. Ashleen Bracey led all scorers with 19 points - including a career-best five three pointers - and pulled down nine rebounds to help the Redbirds improve to 16-5, 9-1 in the Valley.
Overall, Illinois State was 31-for-52 from the field, 12-for-21 from behind the arc and a near perfect 16-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Four Redbirds contributed double-digit scoring efforts including Bracey, who nearly recorded a double-double, Maggie Krick (17) and Hannah Spanich (15) and Nicolle Lewis (11).
Both teams opened the game with physical play and Indiana State kept the first half close until the Redbirds went on a 10-2 run to take a 31-21 lead. Bracey finished the half with 11 points and five boards and Spanich added 12 points and two rebounds to help Illinois State take a 45-24 lead at the break.
The Sycamores were able to pull within six points to open the second half but Illinois State went on an 8-2 run and never looked back. The Redbirds pushed the lead to as many as 31 in the closing minutes of the game and Katie Broadway scored on a breakaway layup to give the `Birds a season-high 90 points.
Taylor Whitley led Indiana State (11-10, 2-8 MVC) in scoring with 17 points. Chelsea Buher and Kelsey Luna each scored eight points in the loss.
The Redbirds, who remained in first place in the Valley with the win, continues the conference slate at home against Wichita State Friday at 7:05 p.m.
