NORMAL, Ill. -The Illinois State softball team will play its first game in the Land of Lincoln Wednesday evening against No. 21/22 Illinois at the Eichelberger Field in Urbana, Ill. The Fighting Illini will be the seventh ranked opponent the Redbirds have faced during the 2010 season.
Illinois is ranked No. 21 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and moved up three spots to the No. 22 position in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.
The last time Illinois State (10-9) and Illinois (16-2) competed was April 7, 2009 at Illinois. The Illini defeated Illinois State by one run, 10-9, in a game that lasted eight innings.
Both Illinois State and Illinois have played Radford earlier this season. Illinois State defeated Radford, 7-6, on the second day of play at the National Fastpitch Coches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Also, during the second day of the tournament, Illinois handed Radford its second loss of the day, 10-0, in a five inning game.
