Illinois State senior Osiris Eldridge and Dinma Odiakosa were each named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division I All-District 16 Team Tuesday, as voted on by member coaches of the NABC. Eldridge earned first-team all-district honors, while Odiakosa was named to the district's second team.
Eldridge, a three-time All-Valley first teamer, led the league in scoring with 15.9 points per game and he also pulled down four rebounds per contest during the regular-season.
Joining Eldridge on the first team were Northern Iowa's Jordan Eglseder and Adam Koch, Wichita State's Clevin Hannah and Drake's Josh Young.
Odiakosa, who was a first-team All-Valley selection this season, averaged 13.2 points and a league-leading 8.8 rebounds per game during the regular season for the Redbirds. He also leads the conference in field goal percentage (60.9) and is the league leader in offensive rebounds per game (3.8). This was Odiakosa's first all-league honor of his career.
The second team, in addition to Odiakosa, included Northern Iowa's Kwadzo Ahelegbe, Creighton's Kenny Lawson, Bradley's Sam Maniscalco and Missouri State's Kyle Weems.
The 240 student-athletes, including Eldridge and Odiakosa, from 24 districts, are eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams, to be announced on Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m. (EDT) at Bracket TownTM in the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind., during the NABC Convention and NCAA® Final Four®.
Illinois State opens the 2010 National Invitation Tournament Wednesday at Dayton. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. CST.
