NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head diving coach Phil Hoffmann opened registration for the 2010 Redbird Diving Camps. The informational and hands-on diving camp includes four diving camp sessions, with the first two camps open for divers ages 8-18 of all skill level, and the final two camps open to freshmen entering high school and older. The camp will be held Illinois State's Horton Pool.

The first and second diving sessions are open to divers ages 8-18 of all skill level and will be held July 12-14 and July 15-17. The third and fourth diving camps are open to freshman entering high school and older, and will be held July 19-22 and July 26-29.

The Redbird Diving Camp is designed to teach the basics of diving in a safe and educational environment and to help divers with previous diving experience improve their skills. The camp will include dry-land training with diving specific skills and instruction.

The camps cost $125 for session 1 or 2, or $240 for both sessions. For the high school and up level, it will be $160 for session 3 or 4, or $300 for both sessions. A $75 deposit for each registrant is due at the time of enrollment, with the remaining balance due at camp check-in. The fee covers daily on- and off-board instruction, a camp t-shirt, camp insurance, and a pizza party on the final day of camp.

"This camp is a great way for kids to be in a fun and safe atmosphere and for beginners to learn the essentials of what diving is all about," said Hoffmann. "It is also a great way for the high school divers to get a jump on the competition they will face in the upcoming season."

The facilities being used are equipped with the best safety harnesses for the dry-land diving board and trampoline and also the diving boards in the pool. There will also be former Illinois State divers on hand to help teach the campers.

Interested campers can find more information regarding session fees in the online brochure located on GoRedbirds.com in the swimming and diving section. Registration for the camp is due by July 1, 2010. Registration postmarked after July 1 will be charged a $20 late fee.
