Juniors Erica Schick and Hannah Deutsch have been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA South Central Regional Championships in the all-around and on the balance beam, respectively. Sophomore Melissa Mann was selected as a first-team alternate on the balance beam.
The NCAA Regionals are broken down into six regions. The teams and individual gymnasts will travel to their assigned location. Each region has six teams, five all-around competitors, who are not qualified with a team, and one individual event specialist per event. The individual specialist must have a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4.
Schick enters the all-around competition with a RQS of 38.830. She will be competing against Rashonda Cannie (TWU), Jordan Salsberg (SEMO), Rikara Turner (SEMO) and Rachel Montoya (UIC). Schick posted a career-high all-around score of 39.075 against Alaska-Anchorage (3/5) earlier this season.
Deutsch earned an RQS 9.805 to qualify her to compete in regionals on the balance beam. This season, Deutsch has been a consistently strong competitor on the beam, posting a season-high score of 9.850 at the Missouri Cat Classic (3/20).
Schick was named to the All-Midwest Independence Conference First Team at the MIC Championship meet last weekend. Schick was also named to the all-conference team for her third place finish in the all-around, with a score of 36.650, and wassecond on the floor exercise with a 9.800.
Mann will serve as the first-team alternate on the balance beam. She enters regionals with an RQS score of 9.800. She was also named to the all-conference team at the MIC Championship meet, after a first place finish on the balance beam with a score of 9.775.
The 2010 NCAA South Central Regionals will be held April 10 in Columbia, Mo., at the Hearnes Center beginning at 6 p.m.
