The Illinois State Athletics Department will continue its latest tradition with a pair of nights to celebrate the seasons of both the Redbird men's and women's basketball programs. Both events are free to the public and there will be complimentary snacks and drinks provided, courtesy of Redbird Athletics. The ISU men will hold its event Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m., while the women's event will take place Tuesday, April 13, also at 7 p.m.
The doors to the arena will open at 6:30 p.m., for both events, and the celebrations are scheduled to end around 8 p.m.
Once again, both teams made postseason runs, while the ISU women's basketball team continues its quest for a Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) crown Thursday, as the Redbirds host California, at 7:05 p.m., in a semifinal game. The Redbird women's team, coached by Robin Pingeton, currently boasts a 28-7 record after claiming the 2010 Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title.
Redbird head coach Tim Jankovich will recap the 22-11 campaign by the men's program, which included its third-straight National Invitation Tournament (NIT) appearance. It was the first time the Redbirds had advanced to three-straight postseason berths since the 1995-96, 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.
There is no registration or RSVP required for either event and free parking will be available in the Turner Lot on the east side of Redbird Arena, and in all West Campus parking lots. Both programs will feature a season highlight video, annual team awards and senior presentations.
