JONESBORO, Ark. - Illinois State senior Tommy Bliefnick recaptured some of his magic at the right time as the Decatur, Ill., native fired a 3-under-par 141 (71-70) and is tied for seventh place after the first day of the ASU Red Wolf Classic. His performance has the Redbirds in the hunt as they are in sixth place after carding a 3-over-par 579 (286-293).
"I feel pretty good about where we're at heading into tomorrow," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We're going to need to do something special to try to shake Central Arkansas, but behind them everything is still pretty close. We know that nothing is out of the realm of possibility, we're going in with a strong group, and we're going to need a special team effort to close that gap. I know the guys will be fired up to get back at it, there's still a lot of golf to play and we're looking for a strong round tomorrow."
Senior Kyle Bragg is tied for 18th place after carding an even-par 144 (70-74). Junior Jeff Kellen and sophomore Eric Meier are tied for 38th place after each posted a 3-over-par. Senior Joe Emerich is tied for 60th place with a 6-over-par 150 (75-75). Competing as an individual, freshman Ryan Murphy is tied for 38th place after firing a 3-over-par 147 (77-70).
Central Arkansas has taken a commanding lead at 11-under-par 565 (285-280). Steven F. Austin State is in second place after posting a 4-under-par 572 (283-289). Arkansas-Little Rock and East Tennessee State are tied for third place at even par.
Sebastian Gunnarsson of Arkanas-Little Rock is in first place after firing an 8-under-par 136 (65-71). Steven Lecuyer of Central Arkansas is in second place after posting a 6-under-par 138 (68-70). Zachary Portemont of Troy, Josh Sims of Central Arkansas and Michael Smith of Steven F. Austin State are all tied for third place at 5-under-par.
